Let me take a few minutes to share with you about Smartlipo, a cosmetic procedure for body contouring that is completed in your cosmetic surgeon’s office. Smartlipo takes an hour to complete and local anesthesia is typically used, but if you require or would like another form of anesthesia you should discuss this with your cosmetic surgeon before your procedure.

For the Smartlipo procedure, your cosmetic surgeon will make some very small slits that vary in size from 1-2 millimeters in length and are placed in your belly button or in the groove of your abdomen so that the slits cannot be seen. Next, your doctor will take a cannula that is a hollow tube-like tool that will get rid of any excess fat and skin. During the Smartlipo procedure your surgeon will also sculpt grooves into your layers of fat providing a more muscular look. A separate cannula from the muscle-definition sculpting cannula will be utilized in the liposuction portion of the procedure.

Smartlipo is an outpatient procedure with most people being able to go home within a few hours following treatment. Results are different for each person with a variety of factors determining the outcome.

Smartlipo fat removal is semi-permanent. If your weight increases, then, your fat may return in the treated areas as well as areas that may not have received Smartlipo treatment. For optimal results you will be encouraged to exercise and watch your diet. You can have Smartlipo in addition or with traditional liposuction.
